Party Cat Photo Booth!
We are thrilled to have a photo booth at the show again this year! We know that some of you really missed the ugly sweater photo booth that we’ve had in the past. This time, we’d like to introduce Party Cat! - a Portland based photo booth company dedicated to creating handmade decor for all of your party needs! Each and every prop and backdrop is lovingly made by hand and completely customizable. This is a sneak peek of a couple of the props, but the backdrop will be a surprise!

June Artist of the Month: 20Leagues

20leaguesfull

June’s Artist of the Month display is especially exciting because the folks at 20 Leagues made an amazing cardboard replica of our shop AND a super fun Wonderland of the Month display (a miniature version of the Artist of the Month area!)!!

20leagues5

20leagues1

Be sure to come see it all in person!!! They have also crafted up some awesome dioramas, rebar bottle openers, taxidermy magnets, emergency disguises, and more!!

20leagues4

20leagues220leagues3

20 Leagues began as a New Year’s resolution,
To be adventure barons in art’s industrial revolution.
A fine artist and a blunt scientist are we two, the crew.
We’re commanded by Captain Jules, who’s imaginary (says you).
We’re a marital pair sharing an odd, addled brain.
We live high in the hills, raising cats, moss, and Cain.
We love layers upon layers upon layers upon more.
We think art is for everyone, not just the bores.
We have thousands of heroes and a couple of fans.
We love how squirrels have twee little hands.
We like things like concrete people no longer see
Our eyes behold beauty in ubiquity
We use self-publication for our self-adulation
¡We invert punctuation when we make exclamations!
We love the glory days of every craze what had them.
We love dioramas to depths you can’t fathom.
Our yarns are more woven than we’ll ever confide.
If the world is your oyster, we’re the toy prize inside.
This makes sense to us, if that makes sense to you.
We ‘like like’ you Portland. Hope hope you like us two, too.

Don’t wait too long! Applications are due September 15th!
Not sure about how to put together a strong application? Check out our list of handy application tips below!

Application Tips!

1. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
Not every craft fair is going to be the right fit for your work. If you haven’t had a chance to come to one of our shows in the past, take some time exploring ourprevious vendor lists, peruse our flickr pool, and peek at our facebook page to see if this looks like the right venue for you.

2. SUBMIT IMPECCABLE PHOTOS!
Often, all we have to base our decision on is the 4-5 photos or website link you submit with your application. Make sure your product photos are in focus, well lit, and really show off your work! If photography isn’t your forte, have a friend help you or do a trade with someone who will make your products look like superstars. If you’re submitting a website, make sure your inventory is up-to-date with the types of items you wish to sell at the sale. It doesn’t help us when we reach an empty Etsy shop or a blog where we have to scroll way down to figure out exactly what it is that you make.

3. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!
Please read all instructions carefully and be sure you are following the directions provided in filling out your application and paying your application fee. When you don’t follow directions it creates unnecessary work for us and makes us cuckoo.

4. EDIT YOUR OFFERINGS!
We love that you’re so crafty that you make 10,000 different types of things, but that doesn’t mean they will all look good together in your booth. And it confuses the jury to see so many different types of products in your application. For example, if you make soap, jewelry, clothing, wallets and art prints maybe choose 2 of those media where the products compliment each other the most and apply with those.

5. IF SHARING A BOOTH, CHOOSE YOUR MATE WISELY!
We understand the motivations behind wanting to share a booth, but we do caution you to choose your partner wisely. You will be juried as a pair, so the quality and style of your work will be looked at together. This means that the your product lines should make sense together and have a similar aesthetic. We also advise against sharing with a jewelry maker. At least half of our applicants make jewelry – it is by far the most competitive category – so sharing with a jewelry vendor may lessen your chances of being accepted unless their work is mind-blowingly awesome.

June Artist of the Month – Sarah Glover of Oh My Deer!

We are very excited to be featuring Sarah Glover as Artist of the Month for June. She is a longtime vendor at both the shop and our large scale craft fairs and, as you can see, she really brings cute to a whole new level!

Sarah Glover is the crafter behind Oh My Deer! She is a maker of many, many things! She’s inspired by bright colors and patterns and is quite obsessed with creating anything and everything out of felt! She enjoys making quirky handmade items that bring smiles to peoples faces! At Oh My Deer! you’ll find an array of handmade goodies from hair accessories, jewelry, plushies and an occasional mustache on a stick! When Sarah is not crafting she can be found hunting for treasures at thrift stores, or baking a cake or two! She hopes you enjoy her items as much as she enjoyed creating them…we sure do! Stop by the shop for an amazing assortment of her handmade goodness – some staple shop items as well as some fancy new things that she made just for the feature!
